Why Enterprise Project Controls
Most planning problems don't announce themselves. They hide in optimistic baselines, untested logic and contingency that was never really analysed. By the time they surface in a monthly report, the options have narrowed and the cost has grown.
Chris Gray works differently. He sits inside your delivery or bid team as a hands-on master planner and risk analyst — building programmes that survive contact with reality, stress-testing them, and giving decision-makers a clear, honest read on where the time and money risk actually sits.
Operating principle
“A schedule is a decision-making instrument, not a wall decoration. Its job is to tell you the truth early enough to do something about it.”— Chris Gray, Master Planner & Risk Analyst
What Chris does
From baseline programme through to claims defence — end-to-end project controls for capital projects that can't afford to slip.
Robust, logic-driven construction and delivery programmes in Primavera P6 — baselines, rolling-wave planning and integrated schedules built to be delivered, not just submitted.
Independent programme QA, progress monitoring, monthly reporting and forecast validation that keeps contractors honest and gives clients an early warning system.
Quantitative and qualitative risk to ISO 31000 — identifying uncertainty, sizing contingency to protect margin, and coaching teams past the cognitive biases that sink estimates.
Rigorous assessment of contractor tender programmes, weighted on expedience of delivery, with clear, defensible award recommendations for major construction packages.
Forensic evaluation of EOT claims and delay events, coordinated with cost teams on compensable costs — and advice on contract mechanisms that reduce future disputes.
Specialist hyperscale and data centre planning — base-build and fitout programmes, client-side planning QA and time-critical delivery advice on live and tendered builds.
Sectors
Hyperscale and colocation base-build and fitout, client-side planning QA.
Electricity distribution, bushfire mitigation programmes and gas-market projects.
Major infrastructure and regulated capital programmes under scrutiny.
Design, engineering and construction planning for resource expansions.
Selected work
Planning quality assurance across ~143MW of hyperscale capacity, evaluating 16 tenders and recommending award on ~$1Bn of construction, while uplifting general contractors' planning capability.
Developed the contract construction programmes for a successful hyperscale bid, then guided the delivery teams on the time-critical path and where to focus to manage delivery risk.
Planned a five-year programme deploying bushfire-mitigation technology across the Powercor network — a Royal Commission response reducing fires from powerline faults.
Common questions
Independent master planning, construction scheduling, project controls and quantitative risk analysis for complex capital projects. It's led directly by Chris Gray — you get a senior practitioner, not a hand-off to a junior.
Both. Chris takes on embedded contract roles within delivery and bid teams, as well as shorter advisory engagements — schedule reviews, risk workshops, tender assessments and second opinions on troubled programmes.
Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project for scheduling; rolling-wave and collaborative planning techniques for delivery; and ISO 31000 for risk, blending quantitative and qualitative methods.
Chris is based in Melbourne, Victoria, and takes on engagements Australia-wide, on-site, hybrid or remote depending on the project.
